Jeff Portwood, principal | owner is a licensed Real Estate Broker and professional forester. He has over 33 years of experience in land asset management with ten of those years focused on land sales for a large publicly traded real estate firm based in Austin, TX. During his career, he has been involved in over 1.5 million acres of timberland transactions, large and small, from private to institutional buyers and sellers. He holds a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Forest Resources Management from Mississippi State University and has lived in Lufkin, TX with his family for 20 years.

IronGate delivers again! Closed 1.1 million acres of commercial ground water rights (45% NPRI) in East Texas for Austin based client. This complicated transaction, skillful negotiations, and extensive title review took more than 12 months to complete and may well be the largest property rights partition and transfer of its kind.

Representing Austin, TX based minerals group to divest timberland/recreation property in Hardin County and Jasper Counties as well as The McCullough Family Trust to divest properties held in Angelina County.

IronGate provided real estate strategy advisory support and planning to Forest Resources Consultants (FRC) and client in the acquisition of 1.1 million acres of timberland from CalPERS and Campbell Global.



Closed 7,900 acres or $27 million (commercial, development, timberland/recreation properties). Represented two large publicly traded clients. One is selling 1.1 million acres of NPRI in commercial ground water rights in Texas and Louisiana. The other in an advisory capacity to implement its business improvement initiatives to optimize returns from over 500,00 acres of U.S. South timberland.
